What is liquid screed?
Often, liquid screed is confused for concrete, but the two are not the same thing.
Liquid screed is different to ordinary concrete, but it operates in a very similar way. It is poured on top of a concrete layer, in order to provide the surface (most commonly flooring) with a neat, level and smooth surface, upon which wooden or carpeted flooring can easily be fitted. Or, in some more modern properties, the dried liquid screed layer can be buffed and polished, and left as a concrete flooring.
What are the benefits of using liquid screed?
Liquid screed is a fantastic product, which is a lifesaver for builders.
The benefits of liquid screed include, just to name a few:
- It is easy to lay
- It provides a suitable base for a wide variety of floor coverings, including wooden, carpet, tile, vinyl and linoleum flooring
- It provides a neat and smooth surface, which is precise and level (thanks to its impressive self-levelling abilities
- It is highly hardwearing, sturdy and remarkably durable. As a result, once laid, it will last for many years to come
- There is a minimised risk of surface cracks
- Once dried, the surface does not to be sanded
- The dried screed is compatible with any type of floor adhesive (no need for priming!)
- It is a fantastic option if you are looking to install underfloor heating. The screed is conductive, and it seamlessly sets around the fitted pipes
