The BSI Kitemark is one of the industry’s most trusted and reputable third-party certification marks.
This accreditation is designed to make it clear to consumers that a particular concrete supplier is attaining the highest quality standards.
At iMix Concrete, we have two BSI accreditations – BS EN 206 & BS 8500. We are immensely proud to have achieved these accreditations, as they demonstrate that our product quality and reliability are second to none.
Below, you can learn more about what the BSI accreditation means, and the requirements that a company has to meet to attain it.
What is the BSI Kitemark accreditation?
The BSI Kitemark is a UK third-party certification, which demonstrates that a supplier has been independently verified, and confirmed to achieve a specific standard.
The standard comes from the British Standards Institution (BSI), which both owns and operates the accreditation, and has done so for over 120 years.
During these years, the BSI Kitemark has established a firm reputation for one of the most reliable standards in existence. It is used as a hallmark for products and services of an outstanding quality, safety and reliability, across numerous critical industries.
In order to achieve the accreditation, the product or service has to have been tested repeatedly, by independent experts. In fact, the testing process usually takes several months to complete. It involves BSI’s experts testing and inspecting not only the products / services, but also the manufacturing environments, to ensure complete compliance with the relevant industry standards.
Why is the BSI Kitemark accreditation important?
As the testing process for the BSI Kitemark is so rigorous, this accreditation is one of the most reliable and high quality standards in existence.
In fact, the BSI Kitemark is recognised by 67% of UK consumers. Furthermore, 70% of consumers say that they are ‘more confident’ in products that have achieved it (than ones that don’t).
It’s important to note that this mark is voluntary, meaning manufacturers and service providers choose to embark on the BSI certification process themselves, in order to test and demonstrate their safety, consistency, quality and reliability.
Then, the BSI Kitemark scheme also requires an ongoing assessment for every company that holds the mark. In order to retain the kitemark, they must consistently adhere to the required standards.
BS EN 206
BS EN 206 & BS 8500 are a combined certificate, and iMix Concrete has achieved both of these BSI accreditations.
This standard tests the concrete that is used for the following structures:
Precast structures
Structures that are cast in-situ
Structural precast products that are used in building construction
Furthermore, the standard governs the quality of both ready mixed concrete and concrete that is mixed on-site.
EN 206 is a standard that is designed for use in conjunction with other EN standards, especially other standards that cover the testing of fresh and hardened concrete.
BS 8500
The other half of the combined certificate is BS 8500.
The BS 8500 also applies to concrete, but this standard is specifically for low carbon concrete.
It is designed for use in conjunction with the BS 206 standard, by incorporating provisions that are specific to low carbon concrete compositions.
The standard governs the quality of low carbon concrete (and its requirements for different applications), and guidance for innovation in this sphere. The result is a hallmark that gives consumers trust and confidence in the performance of low carbon concrete.
At iMix Concrete, we are committed to attaining the highest quality and performance standards. This is a commitment that we have made across all of our services, including our pioneering eco concrete services.
