At iMix Concrete, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact, and helping our clients do the same.

We know that concrete is usually one of the biggest causes of CO2 emissions in building construction, and that conventional concrete is something that many project planners are looking to move away from.

So, we wanted to offer a product that would support our clients’ environmental targets.

Our Eco Concrete has achieved a CO2 reduction of over 50%. What’s more, it has achieved this while retaining all the high strength, durability, flexibility and other critical performance benefits of concrete.

At iMix Concrete, we’re delighted to have – already – helped our customers save 5,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions from being created.

But while 5,000 tonnes sounds like a lot, it’s difficult to actually picture just how much that is.

Even 5,000 tonnes of a solid would be difficult to comprehend, let alone this as a volume of gas…

How much CO2 is 5,000 tonnes?

5,000 tonnes of C02 is equivalent to:

  • The electricity required to power 987 homes in a year
  • Consuming 11,576 barrels of oil
  • Charging a smartphone 330 million times
  • Burning enough coal to power 27.5 railcars
  • Driving 12.7 million miles in a car
  • The annual carbon footprint of around 417 people

To put it another way, a tonne of CO2 takes up a lot of physical volume, too.

In terms of the actual space that this represents, just one tonne of CO2 is equal to an 8m x 8m cube (when at 15 degrees Celsius and sea level pressure).

If an average UK house is around 8-10 metres tall, and 4.4 metres wide, a tonne of CO2 takes up a space that’s considerably larger than the average home.

When you multiply this by 5,000… it’s a lot of CO2 that’s being saved.

Understanding your CO2 emissions

Businesses across the world are feeling increased pressure from their customers.

Customers are demanding that businesses demonstrate complete transparency over their sustainability metrics. Then, these businesses have to illustrate clear plans for improvement, outlining how these emissions will reduce over time.

As a result, businesses are now being held more accountable than ever before.

At iMix Concrete, we are working to provide businesses with more sustainable options. With our broad (and growing) range of Eco Concrete, you can easily and effectively reduce the CO2 emissions that your projects are responsible for.

Then, to further enhance your sustainability strategy, you can communicate this success to your customers through a visual like the one we’ve created above. As you can see, this provides a clear way of illustrating CO2 emissions savings, which is easy for them to visualise, and demonstrates just how big an impact you are making.

Bring your customers and employees with you on this journey, and invite them to celebrate your successes with you.

Concrete Calculator

Working out the amount of concrete you need for a job can be difficult to do, especially if it’s your first time using it for a project. Ending up with too much concrete volume can be unnecessarily costly, and ending up with too little means delays to your work. Luckily, our concrete calculator (UK) solves all your estimation problems and lets you know exactly how much concrete you’ll need for your project.

Whether it’s the amount of ready mixed concrete to be used for concrete slabs, or working out how much needs to be combined with coarse aggregate, we’ve got the solution.
